You know, I wouldn't mind if a codec was commercial and wanted money because it was really GOOD but this codec is REALLY bad. It's like comparable quality to Mpeg-1 for k/sec and that's using a 352x240 15fps 128k/sec encoding ! And I know what Mpeg-1 looks like at low bitrates cause I spent years encoding them !

To top it off, it =IS= commercial so you get a delicious cherry red candy notice striped across every frame that says, "3ivX Trial" and in case they think you're gonna miss seeing it, it blooming covers your entire video diagonally like a bad package stamp !

If you want to match 3ivx quality without the mouth-watering and savory stamp, just use the free version of TMPGENC to encode an MPEG-1 and compare the two for yourself. That's sad, isn't it ?

Outside of that, if you want the best surpassing DivX, XviD, and even WMV9 or RealMagic, at 128k/sec IMHO is =STILL= Google Video Codec (VP8) which (thankfully) =IS= 100% Free although at this point in the game deserves to be commercial quality software with the comparative tests I've run it on so far.

Grab it quick before it =ISN'T= free is all I can offer you at this stage in your video encoding sessions !

Read it thoroughly before downloading, it is more than clear that it is not freeware:
Note: The Audio Encoder and Audio Decoder are restricted to 50 encodes or a maximum usage of 30 days.
Who needs a codec that ain't that good and -worse of it all- expires? Don't download it.

If you are downloading this codecs for mp4 files watching and you have a slow computer (duron 800 for example like me) don't do this !!!! The film looks like slide show. Try ffdshow - it's more more faster.

Updated: 1 Jan 2004 | Shareware | 1.06MB

Thing is more that I wouldn'T download an over 2 years old codec that obviuosly doesn't get updated anymore.

I downloaded this on the idea that it was freeware but as stated many times bellow it's certainly not! If you're not going to buy it (and I don't advise you to) don't download this!

It will genuinely just mess up you're codecs for anything it touches, I hope I don't encounter any more problems after downloading then minutes later uninstalling it just a few minutes ago.

But save yourself the trouble and steer well away!

Messes up codecs ? Can you explain please ?

the quality is ok but that it expires after one month is quite annoying...anyway, you can uninstall it, delete all entries with "3ivx" in the registry and get another 30 days...

as good as the codec might be, audio is just a 30 day evaluation, so you won't be able to hear any of your files after a while... beware!
