I found the Baofeng player actually pre-empt the Windows media player while my intention was to install the previous player as a standby one. I have to uninstall it coz otherwise Windows player gone for good.

BEWARE stormupd.dll contains as trojan, AVG picked this up and moved it to the vault. Codec seems to work without this so left it installed.

Although this is a great codec pack and includes just about everything you need to play any file, it appears to contain a trojan. Kaspersky detected this trojan and neutralized the threat. I can recommed scanning it with anti-virus before installing this pack.

After installing, my BitDefender detects the stormupd.dll containing a virus...therefore it stops it from being used and thus Storm codec doesnt work...what a load of crap.

I really like this software.
I am not able to play certain WMV files like WMV 3,4 etc. It shows blank screen with audio.
Am I missing anything?

It is an excellent codec pack and installs nicely however with Norton 2007 and newer it will detect a Adware.CPush trojan. After reading about this adware it is installed as a browser object that can cause ads to popup from a specified web address. I do not recommend using this codec because of this. If someone manages to clean the codec pack and make it adware free I would be all for that!

99% there. I downloaded this because none of my Windows DVD players were working on some DVDs(Windows meda player Inter actual or Cyberlink) I had downloaded in Klite and Div x and a few other bits of software and this pack seemed to fix Cyberlink Power DVD completely and some DVDs work in some of the other packages but in the other packages some DVDs still have audio that sounds like you are listening to it through a fan. It also does nasty things to my dial up internet connection.
AVG scanned it as threat free

THis is the BEST around and the most under-rated. There is no Virus on this!!! I have scaned it with ZA anti virus and Kasp. I do not know why so many people use the xp codec pack--this is MUCH MUCH better. IF you want to just use windows media player 7 XX This is what you want.....

I got virus alert while installing the new version! I've used the earlier version before, but of all sudden, after I d/l newest anti virus definition (28/2/2007), I got virus alert when opening the storm codec media classic player! I uninstall them, and download the newest version, and I got another alert while installing "stormupd.dll" files.

It was a false positive. The Chinese version of the pack contains adware toolbar and exe while the English doesnt it. That is Why KAS detected it as trojan.
The new version of Storm Codec no longer has any adware.
